“Behind The Myth of 3 Million” এবং “The Wastes of Time” বইগুলি যারা উচ্চ শিক্ষিত এবং ইংরেজিতে সাহিত্য পড়ার অহরহ অভ্যাস আছে তাদের জন্য।

  2. Having read some pages of the book, I felt that I should write a few lines on the literary merits of it. Many a book goes beyond their discursive setting to please the readers of other disciplines, such as Edward Gibbon’s THE HISTORY OF THE SARACEN and THE HISTORY OF THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE; they are read for their literary merits more than their original objective as being historical work. This piece of writing of the author is almost similar. Once you start reading it, the narrative quality doesn’t seem to let you go of it. I would recommend readers of any persuasions, including political, to read it; no one needs to be persuaded to believe or accept what he had written, but simply to appreciate the ‘authorial energy’ that he had induced into narrative; you cannot escape it.

  3. My only and eager request to you and all people like you to write in details, ins and outs of that war, all facts in the form of text and online version. Plz spread these information to Bangladeshi people and to the whole world. I really get many untold and hidden facts which must be disclosed to the whole nation. By the will of Almighty, truth will prevail, today or tomorrow. “Man is unjust but God is just, finally justice triumphs.”

  5. I am always interested in perspectives and views from all sides of an issue. As a result I have spent considerable time reading through this site and Dr. Kamal’s writing, etc. What I have failed to understand is the deep love and importance of Pakistan to proponents of these views. After 40 years why does Pakistan matter at all? What is the relationship between Islam and Pakistan? Have you kept up with Pakistan? Do you see what a terrible, repressive mess that country has become? Are you not glad that we are not a part of that misery any more? Have you considered the view-point that Pakistan was created as a buffer state for the Western powers and served it”s role faithfully till date while not serving it”s own people at all.

    • Thanks for your comment. The questions you raised are some of the most common we often get asked. The main reason behind the launching of this website is to provide an online archive of books and publications that reveal the different prospective. It’s almost impossible for anyone in Bangladesh to find proper historical facts regarding the creation of BD. From the inception of BD till to date the history books were and still being written by corrupt so-called historians. None of their books contain fact based analysis. Rather they are based on fantasy stories and character assassinations. The situation of BD is the classic example of the saying “When good men do nothing, evil triumphs.” Even though there are some writers who tried to propagate the truth, the sheer numbers of filth and the state sponsorship to promote those filths had made those quality publications almost impossible to locate. Therefore, we have taken the initiative to make those books widely available. It’s as simple as that! Nothing else. Our aim is not to propagate any political or ideological movement; neither do we seek to return BD as East Pakistan. (Although currently, both Pakistan and Bangladesh are almost in similar situation- morally, culturally, economically, socially bankrupt.) It’s just an Online Archive! It’s not about whether Pakistan matters or not. It’s about the historical lessons. It’s about uncovering the lies, deceits and criminal activities which culminated in the illegitimate birth of BD. It’s about fighting the propaganda which still swamps BD history, where criminals are being portrayed as national hero. Learning from history is very important as history has an uncanny knack of repeating itself. Therefore, someone who claims to be “always interested in perspectives and views from all sides of an issue” shouldn’t get agitated when presented with arguments from “other side.” As for your argument about Pakistan now being a failed state- it’s totally irrelevant in this context. What if in 5 years time Bangladesh becomes a failed state? (at the moment it’s not really far from it!) Would that be a reason enough to change your mind (Assuming you are a proponent of Mujib’s idea)? If that’s the case, then the reasoning’s behind such idea is shamefully fickle. The important thing that should matter is the honesty, sincerity and conviction of people behind a movement. A movement which lends itself to lies, racism, cowardice, treachery is not something to be proud of. As a Muslim a good intention behind an act is all that should matter. What will happen in the future is beyond our control. You cannot judge something with the benefit of hind-sight. So, whether Pakistan is now a failed state or not has no significance when analysing the thought process of the people who fought for the idea. Similarly, if Bangladesh becomes a very successful country, it shouldn’t justify the fact that it was created by the masses of shameless collaborators of India. Also it would be better not to amuse yourself by looking at the current plight of Pakistan. Who knows what calamity will befall us 5 years from now? It’s not as if Bangladesh is Singapore. It’s still a semi failed country almost a proxy state of India. Can’t you see how India is depriving us of water, killing our citizens at borders- and all we can do is absolute zilch? So its a bit rich for us to claim to be in better condition. Anyway, as mentioned before, that’s not the point. It is often the case with typical pro India/ BAL supporters who fail to understand this simple analogy.
    • Your comment raises another question. What would you say about the generation that actively struggled for freedom and Pakistan movement (In Fact, Muslim League was born in Dacca by a Bengali Nawab)? If Pakistan was created as buffer state for West, BD remained part of that. If your comment is considered correct, don”t you think that the same Western Powers changed the game plan and they created Bangladesh? If not for any other reasons, still for one reason, We all demanded a separate country in the name of Islam and so is the relationship between Islam and Pakistan. You can’t claim this because BD’s creation based on “Our hands were tied”. Ask the souls of your forefathers about the relationship b/w Islam and Pakistan too. If you think creation of Pakistan was a sin, they are equally responsible for this “Sin”. Misery, repressive mess or the similar words about Pakistan are really disgraceful and displeasing. What media is portraying is not the real face of Pakistan. Whether its Heaven or a Living Hell, it is our country and no one has the right to use such remarks about it. We respect your views, your freedom and we feel more pleased than anyone else in the World whenever BD makes one step forward towards prosperity. Irrespective of the past, we consider BD a younger brother whether you consider us or not.

  6. Thank you for your response. I hope this does not remain a private dialog between us and will appear on your site as well? I would like to respond to some of your comments. I am not agitated at all and am glad you are providing perspective from the “other side”. I am also sure there may be some lies, conceit, misinformation and propaganda involved in the creation myth of Bangladesh. It was so in the case of the birth of India and Pakistan. That is true for the birth of most nation states, civilizations, political entities and even religions. If truth is ultimately what you seek, you should consider the propaganda of your side carefully and not self-righteously assume your perspective to be the ”whole, unalloyed truth”. All that is written or said about the creation of Bangladesh is not myth and all historians are not corrupt or in the pocket of any one ideology. Some historians will try to unearth the truth and the truth has a neat way of emerging over time (Ibn Khaldun) whereas ideologists will constantly try to impose their view of the ”truth” on others. Also, your claim that the birth of Bangladesh is illegitimate raises questions. Who decides if it is illegitimate? What gives legitimacy to such an outcome? Was the division achieved by Nehru-Jinnah-Radcliffe-Mountbatten legitimate? Was Nehru or Jinnah any less vain or power-hungry than Sheikh Mujib? Are the borders of the nation-states anywhere in the world today legitimate? One may like a border and another may not, in the same way that one man’s freedom-fighter is another’s terrorist. The question is not one of legitimacy of the arguments and propaganda of the two sides, but whether the majority of the peoples aspirations are reflected in the outcome. I think there is little doubt that the majority of East Pakistanis wanted to secede and are at peace with the separation. Perhaps, it’s high time you accept this reality as well. I would also like to clarify that I did not call Pakistan a ”failed state” nor am I amused by its current plight. There is no reason to relish in anyone’s misery. However, it remains true that we don”t have to deal with the particular problems that Pakistan is facing in addition to the many issues that plague us. We are struggling along our own path towards a better Bangladesh. We may not succeed, but at least our hands are not tied by West Pakistan or by the issues and limitations of West Pakistan. You did not address my earlier statement about how Pakistan has utterly failed to serve it’s own people (of the west or east) over it’s history. However, till date it has continued serving it’s western masters needs of a buffer state at that location. Also, the sides in this argument or discussion are not divided neatly into Pakistani collaborators and Indian collaborators. I cringe when I hear AL sympathizers call anyone who opposes them to be ”Pakistan Collaborators”. Likewise, I cannot appreciate your comment about the opponents to your ideology and those involved in the independence struggle of Bangladesh being ”Indian Collaborators”. The whole independence movement of Bangladesh was not simply a struggle between those two sides. Are you completely ignoring the history of agitations in East Pakistan and oppression of the East by the West? In the history of 25 years together the Eastern side never achieved proportional representation. Are you forgetting that while 30 million Bangladeshis most definitely did not die in 1971, several million did? The number is surely several orders of magnitude higher than those that died or suffered on your side (not to minimize deprivation, suffering or injustice suffered by anyone). To finish , let me go back to my point that Pakistan itself is absolutely irrelevant to us now that 40 years have passed since the civil war and the two have indeed parted ways. The only reason it remains in the current narrative is because people of your ilk are holding on to it. Hence, my questions earlier. However, India remains relevant for many reasons including our shared borders and water resources. I agree that we should remain vigilant in defending these borders and maintaining our autonomy. While this may be difficult and India will constantly try to violate our independence, our history tells us that it is achievable (200 + years of independent Muslim Sultanate in Bengal after the Tughlaq dynasty). Let’s worry about this challenge and let the issue of Pakistan pass. The issue is anachronistic and has passed just as water under a bridge.

    • I agree with you that it’s not uncommon to find lies and misinformation in historical documents of most nations, states, civilizations etc. But I’ve yet to know of any which have such rampant falsification as it is the case with Bangladesh’s creation. We do indeed consider each publications and the quality of analysis they provide very carefully. So far we haven’t come across any books supporting the secessionist movement offering similar quality of analysis. If you know any then feel free to share. We do not hoist any book which relies on character assassination or vengeance. Can you give evidence supporting your claim that any of the books in this website is such? Nowhere in this website it’s claimed that the perspective these books are providing are ‘whole, unalloyed’. No human being should claim that. As mentioned before we are simply providing a different viewpoint than those prevalent in BD now a day. The current generation has almost no exposure to these. It’s up to the readers if they think whether it’s superior to those. If your complain is about imposing a view then, I’m afraid you are directing it to the wrong people. Ofcourse, I also wish someone would try to unearth the truth and hope the truth do emerges over time. But do you honestly believe that pro-separatists are keen to provide such conducive environment? Given the morally corrupt ideology of such people, it’s no wonder why they try to forcefully repress anyone trying to publish the other side. Each year during the February book fair how many publishers come up with such books? Rest assured none will be more pleased if Ibn Khaldun’s quote you mentioned comes in to fruition. I still stand by the essence of the comment I made earlier about the birth of Bangladesh. Perhaps ‘illegitimate’ wasn’t the appropriate word. I should’ve rather put “disgraceful”. Comparing someone like Mujib to Nehru-Jinnah is to compare cheese to chalk. Mujib is in different class due to his utter criminal intent. He proved it during his absolute rule by massacring thousands of his own people. Where did you see Jinnah doing so? Sheikh Mujib solely relied on whipping up mobs into frenzy by his rhetoric. He never believed in something constructive. His whole political career bears testament to that. Pre 1971, no where did Mujib publicly mention the secession of East Pakistan. Rather he indulged in covert, deceitful collaboration with India. I know it’s a common trait for all pro-Mujib to hate Jinnah. But no where they can find evidence that Jinnah sleep walked Bengalis in to joining Pakistan. How can you say peoples aspirations were reflected in the outcome? Was that part of Awami League’s constitution prior to the election? You might say the successful birth of Bangladesh in itself proves your point. But without India’s active support that wouldn’t have been possible. India chose to support the secessionists from the sideline, but when it realised there’s no hope for them to succeed then it chose to join in- realising such opportunity may never come again. You cannot call a sudden agitation a reflection of people’s long term aspiration. You see people voting for Mujib then supporting his assassination few years after, how fickle! Even couple of years earlier we saw masses supporting BD Army taking over the country from the corrupt politicians and yet within a year protesting to re-install those same corrupt politicians! Do you call this reflection of aspiration? Do you think it was people’s long aspiration that Sikkim was annexed by India? Deciding to break one’s own country is not a game. Following something just because mob or masses are following is not something to be proud of. Therefore, I reject your idea of following such process. I have no problem even if it’s only one person expressing such view as this website. This whole excuse of “our hands were tied” is nothing but a way of denying our own ineptitude. Decades will pass away and so will water under a bridge- but we will always find that quote handy. This is a big topic and I do not want to elaborate on this. I would suggest you to go through the books on this very topic. You can delve in to much details of this “hands were tied” saga. I often wonder what a glorified (?) tale we have for our future generations- We will tell the tale of “our hands being tied down” even though we were the majority. Instead of working for the solutions to mend our country’s problem what did we come up with? Destruction. Even for that we the majority had to rely on a hostile neighbours opportunistic support. There’s also a valuable (?) lesson if our country ever falls in to crisis- the best way is to invite foreign vested interests and allow it to divide it further. Destruction not construction is the way forward (!). As for Pakistan utterly failing it’s own people- I wrote earlier that in this context it has no significance whatsoever. We are not discussing about what a utopia Pakistan has become. Since you are at it, what point you are trying to convey? I can’t see that serving your argument. Do you think Bangladesh serving it’s own people right? What’s your solution for that? Following the lead of 1971, isn’t breaking Bangladesh in to even smaller parts the best solution? No need to worry about Pakistan being a buffer state, worry about Bangladesh serving as a proxy of India. I think as a nation we should stop throwing stone when we are living in a glass house. I refuse even to accept the term “Pakistan collaborator” same way as one cannot call a citizen of BD offering his life for his country as a “Bangladesh collaborator”. The creation of such derogatory term “Pakistan collaborator” in itself goes to show the corrupt filthy ideology of the Mujib supporters. Do you think 25 years is enough time for a country to achieve everything? Please research in to pre 1947 era East Bengal. I know that as a nation we love to promote fantasy stories like “Sonar Bangla”. But pre 1947 East Bengal was a hinterland. You cannot demand proportional representation without attaining the capabilities. A quota system without merit is not an ideal solution for an already struggling country trying to rebuild itself. Just look at the consequences of wanton quota (so called freedom fighters quota) system of Sheikh Hasina’s government. This is also a disgraceful historical fact of our nation. We do not want to take any responsibilities, but think it’s our birth right to demand anything. Don’t you find this hypocritical to conspire against a country since it’s birth and yet to complain about not getting enough from it. As for you mentioning the number of dead people- I don’t want to engage in to number game but whatever number you are coming up with has no factual basis. The situation of Bangladesh is such that as long as it is greater then 3 million, anyone can conjure up anything- with plenty of eager masses to blindly support those. Don’t get me wrong, any death is deplorable. Questioning about 3 million or 3 lacs or whatever is not to lessen anything but to show the extent to which these people are prepared to go to falsify history and justify their disgraceful act. Majority of Bangladeshi history books doesn’t even mention the massacres committed by the pro-India thugs called “Mukti Bahini”. Whether you like it or not, Pakistan is relevant whenever you are discussing the birth of Bangladesh. What do you mean by “….people of your ilk are holding on to it.” Holding on to what? The problem is you are still failing to understand just because “people of our ilk” are analysing the birth of Bangladesh with the different perspective, doesn’t necessarily mean we are holding on to Pakistan. In a way your quote is not dissimilar to those you claim to give you cringe! Let me just give you a small example about the relevance of analysing the 40 year old factor. If Santu Larma ever asks for separation based on the same ideology you are purporting then on which moral high ground you will choose to stand? That issue is not anachronistic. There is so much to learn from our past history of letting criminals to lead and allowing them to whip up a frenzy of nationalistic fervour based on narrow ethnic creed, giving heed to false propaganda sponsored by a vested foreign interest. I cannot comprehend why it’s so difficult for some to accept that we cannot progress by simply ignoring our wretched past. Unless of course if you had meant Pakistan’s irrelevance to current Bangladeshi Politics; then I would have totally agreed. But say that to Awami Leaguers. Not a day passes without them keep dragging Pakistan and blaming them for everything from political violence, BDR massacre to corruption! To give credence to that proverbial excuse of “our hands were tied”- Pakistan will always be needed by them. That putrid ideology of Mujib is such that to remain in existence it will always require the fantasy presence of Pakistan. Just for your information, 200 + years of independent Muslim Sultan’s you are talking about were not Bengalis; so in a way to feel proud of their achievements is a sacrilege to the very ideology of Mujib you are supporting! You complain about analysing something which happened 40 years ago where Bengalis had at least some influence, yet you want to feel proud about something that happened 500 years ago and for which Bengalis had no part whatsoever.
